Jetting carburetors can
sometimes be a bit tedious, it make several jet sizes and attempts to
get the tuning spot on. Be patient, if you purchased one of our Monster
Kits, and we supplied the jets, it usually will be very close the the
correct size you need.
After you have jetted the carburetor, check your spark plug color to see
if the motor is running right, or if it is lean (not enough gas, very
light color plug) or running rich (too much gas, a very black plug). The
ideal color is a nice " chocolaty color"
It's not as bad as it sounds:
1. Once you have removed the storage
compartment under the seat, and you can clearly see the carburetor, we
can move to the next step.
2. Loosen the two clamps, one at the air intake side of the carb, and
the other at the intake manifold.
3. Now, follow the electric wire from the choke, and unplug it from the
harness.
4. Remove the fuel line at the carburetor, as well as the vacuum hose
from the intake manifold.
5. The last thing to loosen is the throttle cable. The carburetor should
now be ready to remove from the scooter.
6. Gently twist the carb and remove it from the two rubber boots.
7. Pour out and dispose of any gasoline left in the carb.
8. Work on a clean flat surface.
9. Turn the carb upside down, so that the bowl faces upwards (Fig 1.).
10. The bowl is held on by 4 screws.
11. Loosen and remove the 4 screws.
12. The bowl should now come away from the carburetor.
13. The jet will be very visible, it is brass with a slot in it (Fig
2.).
14. Gently using a flat screwdriver remove the jet, be careful not to
unscrew the entire brass tube, only the small jet at the top of the
brass tube (Fig 3.)
15. Now install the new jet, and gently tighten it, do not over tighten.
16. Reverse the process, re installing the bowl.
17. Place the carburetor back in the scooter, reconnecting the fuel
line, vacuum hose, and throttle cable.
18. Don't forget to tighten the two clamps.
Congratulations, you have just re jetted your carburetor!
